GitHub Copilot Fusion: Claude Code Power at Half the Cost? #Shorts

Part of Claude with Coding· 12 of 12GitHub Copilot Fusion is now generally available (announced Oct 28, 2026 at GitHub Universe). Instead of picking a model, you pick Copilot Fusion and an effort level: Standard (everyday coding), High (challenging tasks, deeper reasoning) or Max (most demanding tasks). For each prompt it picks a workflow: Single (one model solves it), Cascade (a cheaper model drafts, a quality check accepts it or escalates to a stronger model) or Critique (one model drafts, another reviews, the first revises).
GitHub says Fusion Max scored 60 on the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index, within two points of Claude Code with Opus 5.5 Max, at about half the average API cost per task, about half the tokens and about 40% less time per task. Billed per model used at standard rates, with a 30% discount on paid plans through Nov 30, 2026. Available on all Copilot plans in VS Code, the GitHub Copilot app, Copilot CLI and JetBrains IDEs.
Would you let Copilot pick the model for you, or do you choose it yourself? Tell me in the comments!
